For one of his books, The Life of Jesus, he has even faced the court. The Catholic Church was provoked, and he was convicted in Greece in 2005 for insulting the religious community and was given a six-month sentence in absentia. The verdict was later corrected and Gerhard Haderer was cleared.
While working as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising agencies, he developed his realistic style. He abandoned his commercial dreams in 1985 after a cancer operation, and he has become a freelance caricaturist and satirical illustrator since.
