Unfortunately, we still live in a world full of ignorant people and bigots, and even though the cultural conversation about gender, sexuality, and racism has been brought to light, ableism still remains one of the most common, yet least discussed societal problems.
People have very limited understanding about mental health and disability, and even though public campaigns and TV shows have helped create a better understanding of autism, many people still don’t know much about it, and often times don’t recognize it because it doesn’t match their preconceived cultural notions of what having autism means.
A recent Reddit post gained a lot of popularity because if features screenshots of a conversation between an artist and a customer.
As you can see below, the customer freaked out and demanded a refund after she realized that the person making her personalized mug is autistic.
We just hope that this woman will never get her money back (and maybe get some karma justice down the line). However, much more importantly, we hope that the artist won’t have to deal with such people ever again!
