Giorgio Lo Porto is an Italian man that lives in London. He recently shared a video of his new neighbor playing the piano – and the video will take you on an amazing ride full of music, love, loss, and longing. You know how they say, sometimes all it takes for two people to meet at the right place and at the right time – and that’s exactly what happened here.
In the video, Lo Porto shared that he left a note for his new mysterious neighbor and told him that he loved their music. He asked them if they could play ‘My Heart Will Go On’, and filmed it as the music was muffled behind their shared wall. The video is amazing, and we invite you to check it out for yourself below.
After the neighbor played ‘My Heart Will Go On’, Lo Porto left another note in which he suggested that the two play something together, each in their own apartments. He also noted that he hadn’t played for months, but when he started playing at 2 pm, his neighbor heard it and started playing too.
Well, it’s safe to say that they both loved it so much that it became a weekend ‘meet up’ – playing back and forth through the shared wall. Lo Porto was since sharing videos on TikTok of their performances, and you can watch them for yourself below. However, this is not how the story ends, so keep on reading.
It was finally the time for the two to meet.
In a February 21 video, Lo Porto shared that he finally met his neighbor. His name is Emil, and he’s a 78-year-old man originally from Poland. It turns out that this was his temporary accommodation while he was waiting for his house to be sold, as he lost his wife back in December due to Covid. All he had left was his piano, and the reason he plays at 2 pm every weekend is because his wife loved it.
Emil thanked Lo Porto for keeping him motivated and less lonely, and Lo Porto promised that he’ll keep playing with him until he moves out.
Emil finally had to move on February 26, and they shared their last weekend duet – ‘Moonlight Sonata’. Lo Porto shared that Emil didn’t want to be on camera, but was much happier and thanked everyone for watching their duets.
Unfortunately, this is not how the story ends. On March 14, Lo Porto shared that he had received the news that Emil had passed in his sleep, and now he’s finally reunited with his wife.
This is what he wrote of his duet-playing neighbor:
“Dear Emil, I knew very little about you, but you changed my life. You gave me back my passion, and we shared that with the world. You’ll be in my heart. I’ll keep playing, thinking of how powerful music can be. You said I was your light, but you’ve been mine too. Bye, Emil.”
