Conference Will Allow Christian Homeschoolers To Arrange Child Marriages

This fall was supposed to see a conference to arrange child marriages for Christian homeschoolers in Kansas.

Conservative evangelical and fundamentalist parents were going to meet in Wichita, Kansas in November to arrange marriages for their teen daughters.
The announced plans for a “Let Them Marry” retreat where Christian parents can arrange suitable marriages for their teen children has been published by guru Vaughn Ohlman.

According to the website, the weekend retreat was “designed to bring together like-minded families committed to young, fruitful marriages and help them overcome the barriers which have kept their children unmarried.

The website states that marriage is appropriate between the ages of 13 to 20, but no later because “delayed or denied marriages cause the Word of God to be blasphemed, and turn our young people over to Satan”.

The website also explains how a parent will know when their child is ready for marriage.
It says that the ‘youth’ ready for marriage has breasts, and a woman who is to be married is one who has breasts because they signal her readiness for marriage and they promise enjoyment for her husband.

This whole endeavor is truly despicable, and girls are expected to accept their arranged marriage as a “gift” for them from their parents. According to the website’s FAQ, consent from the girl is not a legitimate consideration.

So, to summarize, a conference was going to allow parents to arrange marriages for their teen daughter without their consent, and even make a profit out of it, because, according to the website, the parents are entitled to a “bride price”.

The conference, however, has been since canceled after negative media attention.
