You have probably never heard of Chris Oliver before, but he is the assistant administrator for fisheries in Trump’s administration’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
He was brought before Congress to defend NOAA’s decision to allow seismic airgun tests off the coast, and the tests help in the search for offshore oil deposits.
However, many states, like South Carolina, have already said that they are against offshore drilling, because it can cause catastrophic environmental damage. So, it makes these tests unwanted by the people and totally unnecessary.
To make things even worse, the tests are absolutely detrimental for marine life.
Oliver, as reported by The Washington Post, repeatedly made the claim that firing these seismic blasts every 10 seconds over a period of several months wouldn’t cause problems for the endangered animals.
Representative Joe Cunningham, however, wasn’t having it. After a heated discussion he had with Oliver, he busted out a 12-decibel horn just a feet over Oliver’s face.
Check out what happened in the video below:
Cunningham said that this is only a fraction of what the marine life experiences, and it happens every 10 seconds, for months!
Imagine living your life with this kind of disruption, which is happening all the time, and you have no knowledge about it or control over it.
