A magazine article from 1958 that advises women on ‘how to attract a partner’ has surfaced on the Internet and went absolutely viral.
The title is “129 Ways To Get A Husband”. and it was featured in American magazine McCall’s. It included a number of tips, ranging from bizarre and desperate to downright sexist and politically incorrect.
One of the instructions told women to be ‘flexible about their potential partner’s decisions’. So, if the man decides to skip the dance and go rowing on the lake, you should absolutely GO, even if you are wearing your best evening gown!
The outrageous post has been shared more than 14,000 times, and it caused widespread controversy on the social media. It was liked more than 5,000 times, and thousands of commenters were shocked by what was written in the article.
16 people were chosen to create the feature, and they were chosen for their “lively ideas, mature experience, and good minds”.
It included a songwriter, an air-line stewardess, a marriage consultant, a police commissioner, a banker, a psychologist, a bachelor, and a housewife.
One of the tips even said that you should invest in material items to enhance your desirability, for example: “Buy a convertible – men like to ride in them”.
One woman’s personal favorite was number 40, which instructed single girls to “stand in a corner and cry softly”, so a man would approach them and ask them what’s wrong.
And number 35 is just a straightforward tactic: “Make a lot of money”.
Many social media were shocked by the lengthy feature, and the comments were pouring in. Someone wrote that in this day and age, this list of tips looks more like a manual of how to get kidnapped. One woman wondered: ‘So apparently I’m doing a LOT wrong, is that why I don’t have a husband?!’, and many others laughingly added that they’d been ‘doing it wrong for years’.
Check out the list for yourself below, and tell us which one did you find most outrageous. We know it’s lengthy, but it’s absolutely worth the read!
