April Neubauer is a mother that was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, and when her blood pressure got dangerously high, the doctors decided to break her water to induce labor, as things took a serious turn.
April and her husband Maxamillian knew that breastfeeding and immediate skin-to-skin were two aspects of their birth journey they didn’t want to compromise, and, luckily, they didn’t have to, thanks to a very creative nurse and an eager dad.
April was rushed in for an emergency C-section after having two seizures, and she gave birth to their daughter Rosalía.
The mother, however, was still being stabilized, so it was all up to dad to meet their skin-to-skin breastfeeding goals.
The nurse asked him if maybe he would like to throw a “breast” on and do some “real breastfeeding”.
Max received an offer he couldn’t refuse, and he was doing skin-to-skin with his baby daughter. He got the opportunity to be the first one to “breastfeed” her.
He says that he’s a big joker, and the ability to try something like that at least once was irresistible.
He added that the nursing staff were giggling and jumping out of joy.
The mother didn’t know that her husband was “breastfeeding” their daughter only until after, and she now appreciates that Max and the nurse stepped in.
The nurses filled the syringe with formula and attached the shield to his breast. This stimulated breastfeeding for his newborn baby.
In the end, he said that he thinks she prefers mom, but he’d do it again in a heartbeat though.
