Christopher Schultz reportedly jumped from a bridge in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, after his child fell into the water, according to the police.
The 31-year-old dad began to struggle while keeping the child above the water, according to Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
Bystanders managed to get into the lake and bring the child to the shore, but the father, sadly, never resurfaced.
Authorities received the reports of a drowning at around 822 AM at Long Bridge on Saturday night.
Emergency services searched for the father and found the body with the help of fishermen. He was rushed to the hospital, but not alive.
According to Bill Wickum, who lives in Detroit Lakes, the area where the youngster fell is dangerous, but not that deep for an adult to navigate.
He told Fox 2 Detroit that it is deep, and there is current but fairly close to where you can touch.
Schultz made the ultimate sacrifice for his son, and it was the day before Father’s Day. Such a sad, sad, story.
