A strange phenomenon has taken place in the small village of Wongarbon, Australia, about 381km north of Sydney. The 12-year-old girl named Ruby Callaghan has apparently travelled back in time during her school day, and his father has written a letter to the educational institute demanding an explanation. He claims that his daughter left their house on Tuesday morning in the year of 2017, ‘travelled’ back to 1968 when she entered her school, and then returned to 2018 with harrowing tales of gender-segregated field trips. Stephen Callaghan, the father, said that his reaction was one of disappointment.
Dubbo West Public School has a self-proclaimed Boy’s And Girl’s Day, where girls are ‘treated to fabulous hair and light make-up’, and boys are going to a hardware store and have a BBQ lunch.
The Department of Education has stated that any student can choose any activity, so Ruby specifically asked her teacher if she could go to the hardware store, but she was told that it’s only for the boys. Are kids really subjected to such forms of casual sexism in 2018, or the space-time continuum has been breached?
Mr Callaghan said that he feels it’s the school’s responsibility to break down these gender divisions because as a father of 3 girls, the issue is especially dear to him. He and his wife wish to give their daughters the confidence to speak up when they feel like they are being discriminated because of their gender.
Ruby was glad her dad sent the letter, and you can scroll down to read it yourself.
MrCallagher says that Ruby specifically asked if she could go to Bunnings (the hardware store), but she was told by her teacher that it’s only boys
Some people, perhaps blind to the perils of space-time continuum fractures, stood behind the school
However, others commended the father for stepping up
He summed up the entire dialogue:
