Raising children is not an easy task, but what most parenting styles have in common is the unconditional love parents have for their children. What it means is that parents (should) love their children no matter who they become when they grow up, because unconditional love is just that: love without any conditions or requirements.
Whether your kids turned out to be successful businessmen, they’re good at sport, struggle in school, are gay, straight, trans, cis, etc. – it doesn’t matter. You love them no matter what!
With that said, big announcements like a kid coming out can take some adjustment, and it might take some time to get used to it.
A father from New Zealand recently took it to an advice column because he found himself unable to accept the fact that his 16-year-old son is gay.
