Doritos Mexico has just released a commercial so heartwarming that it will make you want to reach for the bag of nachos and your tissue box.
The world is in a bad place right now, and Doritos decided to warm all our hearts by spreading love on the Internet. The ad was released in Mexico over the holidays, and it’s called ‘El Mejor regalo’. It translates to ‘The best gift’, and it spreads a message of acceptance and unconditional love.
The ad is based on a real-life Reddit post that was recently shared on the forum by a father, who looked for advice on how to tell his gay son that he loves him and supports him without it sounding like he was forcing his son to come out.
The original post was shared in the sub r/relationship_advice, and it was titled: “My son and his ‘friend’ are a couple. How do I let them know it’s okay?”.
Acceptance is all that and a bag of Doritos chips.
Based on a true story, the 2-minute ad features a father figuring out how he can tell his gay son, who’s not out to him, that he loves him unconditionally, and accepts him just the way he is.https://t.co/wNOVD9dSzd

The dad explained that his son, whom he refers to ‘his absolute pride and joy’, brought his school roommate home because he had nowhere else to go when the Covid-19 pandemic started. Now, the dad shared that they’d been at his place for six weeks up until that point, and even though they think they’re subtle, he had caught them doing coupley things on a few occasions.
“This Doritos ad from Mexico about a single dad trying to express his support for his gay son has me tearing up,” one person tweeted. https://t.co/hcG0qyKRSx

Out reports that the ad is a part of the continued LGBTQ+ friendly programs of Doritos. Eduardo Cordoba, the marketing director at Doritos Mexico, said in a statement that they’re really proud of the accomplishments that have been achieved with Doritos Rainbow, and they believe the moment is right to show that their commitment extends beyond a proud celebration every June.
