Employer Tied Maid To A Tree As Punishment For Leaving Furniture In The Sun

A 26-year-old woman named Lovely Acosta Baruelo who had been working as a maid for a wealthy family in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for several months has been allegedly tied to a tree as punishment for leaving a piece of furniture out in the sun.

The Filipino woman is said to have angered her employers after she left a piece of expensive furniture outside in the heat, so it risked being faded by the sun.

The photos were taken by a colleague, also from the Philippines, and they show her tied by her wrists and legs to a tree in the family’s garden.

The family are understood to have carried out the act to show her “the effects of staying outside in the sun”.

The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs has said that they have successfully helped the mother-of-two to return to her home.

A spokesperson for the DFA has reported that Lovely Acosta Baruelo arrived in Manila, Philippines, on May 9.

Another co-worker of Acosta has also appealed for help and said that their employers would punish them whenever they make small mistakes.

The relieved worker thanked everyone who helped her, and she wants to ask for help for the other Filipinos left there, as she’s afraid for their safety.

More than 2.3 million Filipinos work in the Middle East, and more than half of them are women. However, many of them have complained of being mistreated by their employers.
