Jandra Sutton is a small business owner that recently revealed that she uses a ‘fake’ male personal assistant to handle difficult customers. Jandra, who goes by the TikTok name @jandralee, said that the alias makes it much easier to deal with email conversations that she doesn’t want to handle personally. She also encouraged other small business owners to create fake personal assistants, and the trick comes in very handy when you don’t want to come across as a ‘doormat’.
She shared her thoughts in a TikTok video that has recently gone viral, and in the video, she encouraged all millennial women who have to write emails to try using a white man alter ego.
“So basically you just create a Gmail alias for your ‘male assistant’. My assistant’s name is Matt, named such because he is not a doormat, unlike myself.” – she said. Check out the video for yourself below to find out more about the neat ‘trick’.
Sutton also shared that the trick is very handy if you struggle with confidence via email, and she believes that Matt handles ‘any negotiations or difficult conversations that she doesn’t want to handle personally – and he’s very good at his job’.
The video was viewed more than 1.6 million times on TikTok, and many people applauded the idea. Others, however, pointed out that the fact women feel the need to have fake male assistants is very depressing, and Sutton’s way of dealing with it is only perpetuating a cycle of men holding more power.
