Even though the age-old saying says that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, we are all influenced somewhat by the zeitgeist, whether we like it or not. The “beauty standards” of the time one lives in impact on what they perceive to be attractive, and it’s a fact.
Cassey Ho is a fitness blogger that noticed that what the society has put as an “ideal” body shape on women seems to be changing over time, and rather quickly. Just like the fashion trends come and go in a matter of months, or even days, the changes in ideals are also changing. The problem in this is that women are often left feeling confused, exhausted, and inadequate.
Less than a decade ago, thigh gap and bikini bridge were “mandatory” for a woman to be perceived as a “model-like body”, but now the standard has changed. Don’t believe us? Check out how Cassey illustrated how beauty standards have changed over the years, and maybe your opinion will change.
She wrote that this is how she would look like if she had the “perfect” body throughout history:
She added that we should not treat our bodies like we treat fashion, because manufacturing our bodies is a lot more dangerous than manufacturing clothes.
We should stop throwing our body out like it’s fast fashion, and we should treat it with love and respect. No woman in this world should succumb to the “beauty standards”, and each one of us should embrace our own perfect body!
People loved her positive project, and they made sure to spread that love through the comments:
