French Doctors Could Face Serving Time If They Conduct A ‘Purity Test’

A new has been implemented in France that prohibits doctors from providing so-called ‘certificates’ after conducting a purity test. In fact, doctors can be confined and fines under the new legislation that has been proposed by the Macron administration. The point of the legislation is to stand up to the ‘Iѕlamiс sеpаratism’, and it will be presented to parliament in December.

Under the new bill, physicians could face up to a year in jail and a fine of €15,000 if they issue a “certificate of purity”. People sometimes request them for traditional religious marriages.

According to a survey, one in three French doctors has been asked to give out a certificate that ‘proves’ a woman’s virginity. France 3 TV news reports that most doctors refuse the request, though.

According to gynecologist Dr. Ghada Hatem, though, this doesn’t affect thousands of women in France, but a small percentage.

The doctor provides these certificates if they believe the woman that requests the certificate may be in danger from their family members and in-laws.

The French Minister Delegate in charge of Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, urged legislators to also punish those that demand these tests – most commonly parents or other family members.
