A group that call themselves The National Straight Pride Coalition is planning to hold a “Straight Pride Parade” on August 24th in Modesto, California.
The proposed event is, expectedly, drawing a lot of criticism, and of the critics is a 28-year-old gay man from Modesto named Matthew Mason.
Mason claims that the event is about “hate pride” rather than straight pride, and to make it even worse, the event is being co-organized by Mason’s adoptive mother Mylinda Mason.
Mason discussed the parade and his mother’s involvement in it in an interview with FOX 40, in which he said that this is the woman that raised him, actively working against his rights as a human being.
Mason said that he was afraid of things getting physical, and that the group had designs very different than what they claim.
The group’s website specifically says that “whiteness/Caucasians” are “under attack”, even though they are the “developers of western civilization”.
Mylinda Mason also spoke with FOX 40, and she claims that the parade would be similar to a “church service” and that the critics were looking to amp it up into something it’s not.
Matthew Mason claims that the upcoming event is causing “pain and anguish” in his community, and he added that this is not a positive message.
