Rosemarie Riley is 76-year-old a grandmother that was left feeling a bit embarrassed after she made her regular trip to Asda to pick up some tea, bread, and dog food. However, she forgot her glasses before going to the shop, and what she thought was a box of teabags, it actually turned out to be a jumbo pack of durex.
The grandma of eight accidentally bought a 30-pack of Durex Thin Feel condoms, believing them to be Tetley teabags.
Her mistake only came to light when her bemused husband, the 78-year-old John Riley, was wondering why she had bought them. Rosemarie begged her granddaughter Gemma to return the pack and get them refunded soon after, and the 29-year-old was “howling” with laughter. She shared her grandma’s shopping accident on Facebook, and the post quickly gained a lot of attention.
Gemma went back to Asda later that evening and explained what happened. Luckily, the staff found it as funny as everyone else, and she managed to get a refund.
Rosemarie has since said that she was mortified, and her husband was more upset that she’d spent £17. She explains that she just threw everything in the basket and shoved them in the bag, and she believes the lady in the market should have said that she’s made a mistake.
