Eugene Williams began working on a sign asking his boyfriend to marry him a few months ago with the help of his niece and nephews, and he unveiled it in the most glorious way possible on May 23.
Eugene wrote on Reddit that he quickly hid the sign away after the drop and they walked to see their photo when they exited the ride.
His boyfriend was shocked, and it was then when Eugene got down on one knee and asked him to spend the rest of his life with him.
Chris, his boyfriend, said yes.
The couple are huge Disneyland fans, and they have been going to the park once a month together ever since.
Eugene says that he learned that Splash Mountain was Chris’ favorite ride early in their relationship, so it gave him the idea for the sign and proposal.
Not everyone was thrilled by the surprise proposal, however.
Eugene explained on Reddit that his mom asked him not to post the photo on Facebook because she’s embarrassed of him, and she was worried that her relatives would “gossip”, as she comes from a traditional religious background.
Eugene wrote that he didn’t even receive congratulations from his parents, so it was very heartbreaking for him.
So, he posted the photo to Reddit in a moment of anger, and it was up-voted thousands of times there, and the couple received dozens of congratulations and compliments.
The couple spent the rest of the day at the park, and Eugene says that he’s excited that people are thrilled by the photo, but he’s even more excited about being with Chris and starting a family together.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
