On International Women’s Day, Farah, 25, was severely burned in an attack by her husband Siraj (AKA Bhura) in the town of Moradabad near New Delhi.
The reason: she gave birth to a baby girl, thus failing to fulfill his demand for a male child.
The police has launched a manhunt for the 32-year-old man for willingly causing serious bodily harm using acid.
After the cowardly attack, Farah was rushed to the district hospital with severe burns to her hands, abdomen and face.
Her sister said that Farah married Siraj eight years ago, but these past couple of years they were constantly fighting because he demanded a dowry.
She also added that the recent birth of their second daughter was the main cause for the alleged attack.
Following the birth of their second daughter, her husband’s family gave her hard time, and later things got out of control when they started to beat her.
“After the birth of the first girl, my in-laws started to target me as if I deliberately delivered a baby girl,” she said.
As time passed by the harassment kept escalating until things became really, really bad.
Siraj was under constant pressure from his family and he would often demand she go to her parents and ask them for money to give to them.
When I didn’t oblige them, they started to beat me up. It come to a head when my second daughter was born,’ Farah said.
“I was trying to live with the daily dose of torture thinking about the wellbeing of my daughters. I was wondering if I part ways from Siraj who would provide for my two daughters and myself.”
“But I could never imagine that he would go to the extent of pouring acid on me. I won’t forgive him for this ever.”
