As we all know, students are required to stay awake in class, right?
Well, high school English teacher Monte Syrie might not agree with you, and he explained why he did not take it personally and he did not wake up his student Meg when she fell asleep during his class.
The English teacher says that sometimes people should trust their instincts, even if they go against the grain. Meg is a good student, and he says that she does farm chores before classes, and she even takes a zero-hour class before the normal classes. The pressure that goes along with being a teenager is huge, with all the social, academic and life ‘responsibilities’.
Teens report higher stress levels during the school year than adults, and it’s only natural that many students feel exhausted trying to keep up with it all. After all, high school students are just kids, and they have too much pressure put on them, in and out of school. The pressure can be too much even for the best and brightest ones.
The teacher added that, in his opinion, teachers should show understanding and kindness for students.
