Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel jas just announced that he will be taking a break from his show over the summer in order to spend more time with his family. The news comes after the 52-year-old host has been called out by social media users to apologize for wearing blackface in skits, alongside fellow comedian and host Jimmy Fallon.
Kimmel announced that he’s taking the summer off to spend more time with his family, as he’s been doing this job for almost 18 years, he has done 3,130 shows, and there’s nothing wrong with this. He confirmed that his family is healthy, he is healthy, and all he needs is a couple of months off.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! will air re-runs for the following two weeks before hosts step in, and even though the guests haven’t been announced yet, we’ve seen numerous Hollywood A-listers in previous episodes, including Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, and Pete Buttigieg.
Hollywood star Matt Damon made a cameo in the skit, and he told Kimmel that he couldn’t take a break because he had been waiting for weeks to appear on the show.
Jimmy Kimmel’s break announcement comes after he and NBC’s rival’ Jimmy Fallon were accused of blackface on Twitter. Apparently, Jimmy Fallon painted himself to look like Chris Rock in a 2000 video on Saturday Night Live, for which he apologized on June 1.
Kimmel also painted himself black to portray characters in The Man Show, which aired from 1999 to 2004.
One recurring segment had him parodying NBA player Karl Malone while donning blackface.
Kimmel has not addressed the controversy, and, with Thursday’s show being his last for a while, will likely not do so on his program for many months.
Jimmy Kimmel, on the other hand, was accused of painting his face black to portray characters in The Man Show that aired from 1999 to 2004.
