Female representation in movie and comic book culture has sparked a heated debate that’s been going on for years now, and it’s mostly dragged on by men who fail to acknowledge that there’s obvious unfairness in how male and female characters are portrayed. You see, male characters are usually portrayed as strong, independent characters who could take on the whole world by themselves, while female characters are usually expected just to look good and “smile more”.
Actor James Woods is one of those people, and he recently tweeted about how he won’t watch Captain Marvel because it features a female superhero in a leading role.
Well, comic book writer Gail Simone was having none of it, and she decided to post a thread which perfectly points out just how absurd some of the criticisms aimed at female superheroes are.
Just for information, she has written for Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Wolverine, and Justice League.
However, some guy on Twitter tried to mansplain the origin story of The Punisher to Simone, who has herself written for the character!
