Marvel Introduced First Openly Gay ‘Captain America’ For Pride Month

When it comes to comics and inclusivity, Marvel Comics is on top of the game!

Reportedly, Marvel Comics will introduce a brand-new ‘gay Captain America’ as a part of their new series named ‘The United States of Captain America’. The new series will only come as a limited edition, and reports say that it will arrive just in time for Pride Month.

LGBTQ+ inclusivity is taking a swing in many areas of life, so the new comic is another welcome addition. The new Marvel hero is named Aaron Fisher, and, according to the writer that created him, he was ‘inspired by heroes of the queer community, including numerous LGBTQ+ activists that fight for a better life every day.
The creator of the new comic is Joshua Trujillo, and the company announced the new addition recently.

The United States of Captain America will focus on four heroes that have served as Captain America at one point or another. They include Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, and John Walker. The four of them will work together to track down Steve’s missing shield. Along their way, they’ll meet with many regular Americans that have been inspired by Captain America to help their communities – and this is where Aaron Fischer – the new hero – comes in.

Namely, Aaron will debut in issue #1 of the main story. He’s an openly gay man and the self-proclaimed ‘Captain America of the Railways’. He has made it his mission to protect the runaways and the homeless, even though he doesn’t have Steve Rogers’ powers or resources.

This is what Trujillo, his creator, said in Marvel’s press release:
“Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a better life. He stands for the oppressed, and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers, and helps inspire the next generation of heroes.”
