Megan Rapinoe, the co-captain of the U.S. female soccer team has made her feelings about U.S. President Donald Trump very clear during the World Cup 2019. She said several times that she has absolutely no interest in visiting the “f… White House” after the tournament.
However, it appears that Rapinoe will still get to Washington D.C. after she was invited to tour the House of Representatives by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shortly after their 2-1 win against France in the quarterfinals.
Rapinoe has been involved in a feud with President Trump throughout the World Cup. People first criticized her for not singing the national anthem at the beginning of matches. She said that the “Star Spangled Banner” is a “somber moment” for a “peaceful protest” of inequality throughout the U.S.
Another that features Rapinoe resurfaced last week, and she says in the video that she’s “not going to the f-kn White House”.
Trump was not happy with that, and he tweeted at her multiple times (even though he tagged the wrong Megan Rapinoe).
Rapinoe, however, doubled down on her comments, and her teammates and coaches stood by her.
She said last week that she doesn’t think she would want to go to the White House, and she would encourage her teammates to think hard about lending that platform or having it co-opted by an administration that doesn’t have the same opinion as them.
So, it’s pretty clear that she won’t be visiting Trump at the White House, but it’s still expected to see her and other members of her team in Washington for the customary trip after they return from France, where the World Cup is held.
Their next match will be against England, in the semi-finals.
