Mom Decides To Charge Her Family $50 Per Plate For Christmas Dinner

Even though it’s maybe the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas is also the most expensive time of the year. People are forking out an absolute fortune on presents and food for Christmas, and one of the main expenses during the festive season is, in fact, the Christmas dinner. Yes, the turkey, the roasts, and the pigs in blankets don’t come cheap.

Mandie Holgate is a woman from Essex, England, that decided that enough is enough, and she charges her family £40 each for their Christmas meal this year. She has been hosting her family every Christmas day for the past five years, and even though she loves it, she says that she can’t afford the expense.

The 46-year-old Mandie told LADbible that she worked it out and it costs around £700. Even though she used to take it in turns with her mom and dad and her sister and her husband, as the years went on, her sister said that she didn’t want to do it anymore because she didn’t really enjoy it, so Mandie and her husband have been hosting the event for five years in a row.

Mandie and her husband Andy were left to take on the responsibility of hosting the whole family every year ever since her mom underwent a major knee surgery, and the mom-of-two said that she does all the shopping and cooking for the big day, and, as a small business owner, the costs are a bit too much for her.

To add to that, Mandie wants to support local businesses, and even though some of her family members said that she can get a turkey cheaper than that, she doesn’t want to eat turkey that she doesn’t know where it came from or how it was treated.

So, Mandie decided to charge each of her 12 guests £40 for their feed this year. She notes, though, that her family are more than happy to help out, despite having to contribute, and she added that they all agreed with it and thought it was a great idea.

What do you think about the idea? Would you charge your family if you were the one hosting the Christmas dinner?
