Toxic masculinity is a problem that’s been around for centuries, if not millennia, but it was only brought to light to the wider public in recent years. The concept raises a lot of concerns and it’s equally bad for every part of society and every individual, but as we’ve seen in history: big changes start with small steps.
So, the best thing we can do right now is report situations that shouldn’t occur in the first place and that’s why British comedian and writer Joanna Neary recently decided to share her own experience of a time when her son was directly exposed to toxic masculinity.
The writer recently shared on Twitter that her son, who always waves goodbye to her, no longer wanted to do that. Why? Because the boy’s teacher had mocked him for doing it, so the boy didn’t want to wave his mom goodbye anymore.
And that’s how it starts!
Many people online shared their own views and encounters with toxic masculinity, and discussed what’s the best way to combat that.
