Mom Warns Parents To Check Their Baby’s Toes After A Trip To The ER

The strongest instinct every parent has it so keep their children safe. This thought dominates every possible daily activity, and it’s a primal urge that none of us can ever ignore.
However, there are potential dangers out there that some of us didn’t even know existed, and one mom’s terrifying experience with her baby is so unusual that she felt the urge to warn fellow parents on Facebook.

Heather Fricke is the mom of then-10-week-old baby Jacob, and she shared that she noticed that his toes were blue and tied together while she was holding him after he’d had a nap and she was checking his diaper.
Heather was very concerned about it, and she has sent out a warning to all other parents after what her son went through. She wrote that she handed him to his dad Tommy to put socks on him and Tommy realized that Jacob’s two toes were blue and tied together with a strand of hair.

She immediately took off what she could and had to take him to the ER where they spent an hour and a team of 5 doctors was trying to get the rest of HER HAIR off his two toes.

Yes, you read that right.

Heather and her husband were told by the doctors that if she had not taken off the hair when she saw it, her son’s two toes could have been amputated.

The injuries are called “hair tourniquet”, or “tourniquet syndrome”, and this happens when anything, including hair, wraps around an appendage and leads to the construction of blood flow.

Heather now warns every parent of young children to check their baby’s toes as often as they can.

The photo above was taken about 12 hours after the doctors removed the hair, and the toes are still very swollen. Fortunately, though, the baby made a full recovery, but not before the parents had no idea that this was even possible.

Doctors are also warning that hair might get caught around a baby’s genital area, so be very careful and on the lookout for stray hairs.
