The Norwegian female volleyball team have declared that they won’t wear bikini bottoms during the Olympic Games this summer. In fact, they swapped the traditional bikini bottoms with shorts in a match against Spain at the European Beach Handball Championship, and the Norwegian federation even said that it’s willing to pay a fine for their defiance of the rules.
The Norwegian Handball Federation president Kare Geir Lio said that the most important thing is to have equipment that athletes are comfortable with, so they’re willing to pay any fine.
Even though the European Handball Federation noted that it was aware of the situation, a decision still hasn’t been made.
This is what a spokesman for EHF said:
“The EHF is committed to bring this topic forward in the interest of its member federations, however it must also be said that a change of the rules can only happen at IHF level.”
On another note, two German volleyball players recently said that they would not compete at a tournament in Qatar because they would not be allowed to wear bikini bottoms.
