Photographer Switched Up The Gender Roles Portrayed In Sexist Vintage Ads To Show How Ridiculous They Really Are

In the 1950s, there was a certain image that a woman had to have if she wanted to be seen as the “perfect” woman and a good housewife. She had to walk around the house all day long, cleaning, preparing delicious meals, taking care of her children and her hard working husband, and on the top of it she had to do it all with a smile on her face. The image we are speaking about can be seen in many vintage ads that reflect that era.

Eli Rezkallah, a photographer and a video editor from Lebanon created a very interesting series named “In A Parallel Universe” where he switched up the gender roles to reveal how sexist and absurd they are.

“Although I know that not all men are like my uncles and think that way, I was surprised to learn that some still do, so I went on to imagine a parallel universe, where roles are inverted and men are given a taste of their own sexist poison.”

“These ads were made in the ’50s and it felt at that moment that their essence is still present in the folds of today’s modern social fabric”.
