A priest is facing quite the backlash after he defended a fellow clergyman who humiliated a woman for showing her shoulders, and he even used the story to warn church-going women everywhere.
This is what Father Kevin M. Cusick, LCDR wrote in his initial tweet (that has since been deleted)
“Ladies, a priest I know was forced on Sunday to ask a woman at Mass to cover her shoulders. Please help the priest to protect the purity of the men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly. The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you.”
After he received a lot of comments from infuriated people, Father Cusick decided to double down on his no-female-shoulders at church opinion:
By the way: I’m not backing down from this. I’ve thought about it, I’ve prayed about it and i’m not to going to engage in the endless Vatican II style debate that goes back-and-forth constantly and ends up nowhere.

Just to clear some things here: It is never, absolutely never a woman’s responsibility (or concern, for that matter) to “protect the purity of men”, and if these men lose their minds and self-control over a pair of women’s shoulders, then it is only their problem!
There is so much manipulative and misogynistic sentiment in Father Cusick’s language that it’s difficult to parse through it all.
Many people responded that maybe men should be the ones we need to focus on, you know, considering the fact that women’s shoulders are in no way sexual. Check out some of the most popular responses below:
