Father Tim Pelc is a priest from Michigan that has become a meme on the internet after he held his ‘socially-distanced’ Holly Week service with a water gun full of Holy Water. The photos were shared on social media, and he has since become an internet sensation.
Reportedly, parishioner Larry Replin took the photos and posted them to St. Ambrose Parish on Facebook. Ever since, Reddit users have taken and “edited” the photos on Photoshop, and Father Tim Pelc is now the hottest meme out there.
Priest Pelc has been with the parish in Detroit for 30 years, and he says of himself that he has a “pretty wacky mind and accepting congregation”. He told BuzzFeed News that the original idea was to do something for the kids of the parish in order to celebrate Easter and still observe all the protocols of social distancing.
So, the 70-year-old came up with the idea to use a water gun in order to bless the parishioners’ Easter baskets from a safe distance, and he even consulted an ER doctor to ensure if it was safe to do so.
The priest added that not only was it safe, but he also found it to be very fun. He has been amazed at how much attention the photos have gotten, and how much they’ve resonated with people from all over the world.
