There’s been some crazy stuff at Merritt Lake in Oakland, California. According to the locals, women are walking cats on leashes, and creepy men are jogging there in Speedos. However, the recent incident captured by Michelle Dione has been said to be the weirdest thing that has ever happened there.
A white woman called the cops to stop a few black people who were enjoying a barbecue. Michelle asked the lady what’s the problem she has with the gentlemen having a barbecue at the lake, and she responded that it was a non-charcoal grilling area. She added that it causes the city extra money to do ‘things’ when children get injured because of improperly disposed coals.
There are six designated barbecue zones at Lake Merritt – three of them permit charcoal grills, and three of them do not. Even though the unidentified woman might be actually correct, it was her attitude and the way she handled the situation that caused people to burst into flames over the social media.
Oakland City Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney said that she thinks it’s really necessary for all of us to call the police for emergency purposes only. She claimed that she was not aware of any reports of injured children by discarded coal.
Oakland police eventually arrived at the scene, and the officers took a report. Both of the parties claimed that they were being harassed, and no arrests or citations were given. The group were allowed to continue with the barbeque.
After the controversial events, Oakland residents held a huge cookout on the same site a few days ago, and the backlash spread across the internet as well. The woman was handled the internet way – she was transformed into a meme. What’s your opinion on this?
