Britain’s Golden boy – Calum Scott, who initially found fame as being one of the first Golden Buzzer contestants on Britain’s Got Talent, released the video for his new song named “No matter What”. The video represents a heartwarming tribute to the love and understanding his parents showed when he came out to them.
Calum told Towleroad in an interview that “No Matter What” is the most personal song he has ever written, and the one he’s most proud of. The song was born from his loneliness, acceptance, and the liberating tale of him coming out to his parents.
Calum Scott came out publicly a few years ago, but he says that the fame has made his personal life a bit tough at times. He added in another interview that the press, obviously, wants to know more about his personal life and his romantic life, so it felt for him like a magnifying glass.
He’s always been a bit uncomfortable talking about his romantic life because it took him a while to fully accept it, and he said that he’s had a bit of a traumatic time with his friends when he was younger. He thought that if he told everyone openly that he’s gay, he was going to lose his friends and people’s interest in him.
His new song is not just about his intimate identity, but about the relationship between a parent and a child, and acceptance as a whole.
“I’ve written this from the heart to try and inspire confidence and compassion in people and put some love back into the world, which we could always use more of.” – Calum added.
The lyrics of “No Matter What” are a truly beautiful tribute to the parent’s love and acceptance.
