Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart have been good pals for years.
The Star Trek icon just turned 80 yesterday, and McKellen used the occasion to record an amazing birthday video for his best friend. You probably know about the beautiful bromance between the two, and the birthday video just further proves how much they love each other.
Stewart told Wired a few months ago that the two first bonded on the set of 2000’s X-Men movies when they spent more time sitting in their trailers than they were in front of the camera. He and Ian hung out together, drank tea (and something a bit stronger in the afternoon), and they’ve got to know each other. The charm of it was that the two found that they had so much in common.
The two have become inseparable since then, and they’ve been regularly photographed hanging out at the pub and on red carpets.
The 81-year-old McKellen filmed himself reciting a sonnet for his friend, which follows the #SonnetADay readings he did on Twitter each day during the lockdown.

The most beautiful moment of the video was when McKellen looked into the camera with a smile and wished Patrick a happy birthday and lots of love.
Sir Patrick Stewart started off his #SonnetADay series back in March, in which he gave fans a daily Shakespeare sonnet during the lockdown. You can find all of Sir Patrick’s sonnets on his Twitter or Instagram feeds.
