A former Slimming World Miss Slinky says that she ‘hardly ate for three days’ after her consultant mocked her about her weight gain in a text message that was accidentally sent to her.
Jennifer Ginley-Hagan is a 28-year-old former body-positivity model from Liverpool, and she received the prestigious title Slimming World’s in 2017 after she lost more than half her body weight. She weighed more than 260 lbs at her starting point.
Jennifer was featured on the cover of the company’s magazine after she lost 135 lbs, but she recently admitted on social media that she went out of her target range and was “trying to get back there”.
However, she decided to reveal in a post on social media that her confidence was shaken after she received a text message from her consultant, which, according to her, was clearly intended to be sent to someone else.
Jennifer attended her Slimming World meeting in June, but believing she had gained weight and not wishing to see the number on the scale, she did a “blind” weigh-in, meaning that she didn’t know if she gained or lost weight.
Later that day, however, she received a text message from her consultant that read:
“So Princess P had a blind weigh today. Plus 5!! She is only 5st lighter. Weighs 14st 4lbs!! ”
Jennifer decided to post a screenshot of the message to her Instagram profile and tell her 200,000+ followers about it. She captioned it with:
“It SICKENS me that I am having to make this public but I can only take so many LIES. I have never made this public for the sake of the person involved but I now do not care as I am being blamed for something that is NOT my doing.
“My consultant never contacted me to discuss the gain and I didn’t contact her, she hadn’t reached out in whole six months when I’d put on 3 stone. (sic)
This is a text she was sending about me; ‘Princess Perfect’.”
According to Jennifer, her consultant had intended to send the message to her sister, and says that she immediately knew she was the “princess” being laughed at.
“I was destroyed and hardly ate for about 3 days, I was ill. I felt like I was 19 and a half stone again and being mocked for my weight. My weight gain was MY fault. I didn’t deserve this. Imagine YOU received this.” – Jennifer added.
Thousands of people liked her post and sent her messages of support since she posted it. One commenter wrote that this made her feel sick because anyone who has joined and stepped on the scales with a lot of weight to lose knows just how hard it is and how much one relies on discretion.
Another one added that this is beyond disgusting.
“You are a beautiful, kind person & totally right for putting this out there. Good for you because I would of done it in a lot less dignified way.” – her comment read.
Jennifer decided to report the incident to Slimming World, and the consultant has lost her license after an investigation took place.
A spokesperson from Slimming World has since released a statement, saying that every one of their 5,000 consultants is committed to, and accountable for, treating their members with respect, care, and kindness, and most importantly to keep their promise to maintain absolute confidentiality, especially in relation to members’ weights.
“While we cannot comment on the details of specific cases, we can confirm one consultant had their license terminated as a result of a recent investigation.” – they added.
Jennifer has since deleted the post.
