We know that no one likes to be watched while reading a book, but if it means that you get to visit this amazing library in China, we believe you would make an exception. Especially after you see the giant spherical auditorium in the middle that looks like a giant eye!
This library is located in the Binhai Cultural District In Tianjin and it was designed by MVRDV, a Dutch design firm in collaboration with the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute. It has been named “The Eye of Bihnai”, and it covers 34,000 square meters, holding up to 1,2 million books. It took just 3 years to complete, and it features a reading area on the ground floor, lounge area and offices, and meeting spaces and computer rooms at the top.
Most of the futuristic-looking floor to ceiling shelves are actually painted to look like they are full of books, but in reality, most of them are just printed images. The real books are stored in other rooms in the building. However, the building is just fascinating, as you can see from the photos below.
