Tina Turner, the music legend, has spoken out about turning 80 today. She said that it’s like having a second chance at life.
The music star has sold more than 200 million records in her stellar 60-year-career, but she was battling in recent years with cancer, and she also underwent a kidney transplant.
The Queen of Rock and Roll said that she didn’t think that she would be like this at the age of 80. She noted that she looks great, she feels good, and even though she has gone through some very serious sicknesses, she is overcoming. She added that she feels like she’s having a second chance at life, and she’s very happy to be an 80-year-old.
Tina, famous for many of her hits including What’s Love Got To Do With It and Simply The Best had a mild stroke after she married German music executive Erwin Bach, 63, in 2013, and she had to learn how to walk again.
She was diagnosed with kidney failure and intestinal cancer three years later, and doctors had to remove part of her intestine for her cancer. Her kidney problems got very bad, though, and she even considered assisted taking of her own life.
Erwin, her husband, gave her one of his own kidneys, and Tina underwent a successful transplant in April 2017.
The singer now lives in Zurich, Switzerland, and she said that she knows that her medical adventure is far from over. However, they’re both there, closer than they have ever imagined, and that’s a cause for celebration.
