Twitter User’s ‘Flying While Fat’ Thread Will Change The Way You Behave On Planes

Many people don’t like traveling on a plane for various reasons, but the uncomfortable experience can quickly become an intimidating and even humiliating one for overweight passengers. Twitter user ‘Your Fat Queer Friend’ shared her thoughts on the matter recently, and we could all learn a little empathy and compassion by reading the honest thread by an overweight person.

It truly is something many people don’t realize.

At this point, it’s clear that flying is a tremendous emotional and financial hardship for this person.

However, when people aren’t nice, the journey can even become scary.

The takeaway from the thread is quite simple: be kind to people! We often underestimate what they’re going through!

I am a large woman. I am 5 10″ and am built in proportion. I have had an airline attendant tell me I should have purchased an extra seat because my long legs were pushing against the seat in front of me or sticking out in the aisle. With the constantly shrinking seat size and lack of foot room, it is miserable for me to fly. I always try to get an aisle or window seat so I have a little extra room. I have observed that large, tall men are not treated in the same way, even though they are taking up much more room than I am. It is incredibly discriminatory and I am shocked they are getting away with reselling purchased seats. I bet someone could organize a class-action lawsuit and really clean up. They are subsidized by the government, so seats to accommodate all should be available. Stewardesses tend to bully women, which really is not right. Some of the most inconsiderate passengers I have ever traveled with were men, and a big man takes as much room as a chubby woman. SMH. The airlines need to increase seat sizes and foot room. Planes today are death traps if there should be an emergency. This has been brought up in Congress many times, but the airline lobby greases their palms and it goes away. Our country revolves around greed and everything is being ruined as a result.
