The toy industry has been surrounded by unrealistic portrayal of dolls and their effect on the self-image of women for ages now, and dolls are (usually) an “ideal of proportional body shape and image” of girls. Girls from all around the world have been influenced by the unrealistic dolls from very young age, and the flawless symmetrical image has become an inspiration for many. The fact, however, is that putting an unrealistic image on young girls can be very harmful for them, so this is why we are thankful to the numerous artists who contribute to changing this.
Olga Kamenetskaya is one of those artists, and she specializes in doll modification and repair. She takes what’s considered “perfect” and gives it a realistic makeover, which results in absolutely gorgeous creations. It all started out as a hobby for this Ukrainian artist, but it has now turned into a career which is admired and followed by more than 60k people on Instagram. Check out some of her creations below, and make sure to follow her at oli.krolik.
