With the rise of the protests in support of Black Lives Matter movement across the U.S. and the world, many white people confronted their own racist thoughts and actions that they’ve been doing consciously or not. Some have really recognized how different life is for men and women of color, and we’ve all realized that even if you haven’t experienced it yourself, developing awareness is the key.
Pamela Chandler is a woman that got fed up with all the posts she’d been seeing (from white people) on social media that “racism isn’t really a thing anymore” and that they’re tired of the Black Lives Matter protests. So, in order to open the eyes of many, she decided to write an open letter on Facebook about how racism has shaped her family’s everyday life. You see, Pamela is a white woman married to a black man, and the post is so powerful that it racked up more than 127k shared and thousands of reactions.
Pamela received a lot of positive feedback for her powerful post, and she decided to create a family blog called The Chandler Crew in order to connect with people who have the same views from all over the world. However, what bothers her is that although her post went viral, she’s still a white woman, when “plenty of people of color have spoken to these issues many times”.
