Woman Accuses Sony Of Insulting Japanese Culture By Featuring A White Musician In Traditional Japanese Clothing

Electronics Entertainment Expo 2018 was a place where many hardware manufacturers, software developers, and video game publishers presented their new and upcoming products.

Sony revealed one of their new PlayStation games in an unusual way, featuring a musician. However, the performance was called out as “blatant cultural appropriation” by many people on the social media.

Dani Jo tweeted:

“Can someone at @sony please explain why you chose NOT to hire a Japanese performer to wear traditional Japanese wardrobe for a Japanese game,”

However, a Japanese Twitter user responded by explaining that hiring an American to play the shakuhachi, the traditional Japanese bamboo flute wasn’t a mistake. Dani realized that she made a mistake, and she even went so far that she decided to delete her Twitter account out of embarrassment.
