I know you’ve heard it numerous times, and I believe we should repeat it once again: depression has no face!
Many people have many misunderstandings about this insidious illness, and even people living with depression might need a long time to realize and accept that something might be wrong. Maybe that constant nagging and permanent state of anxiety and exhaustion is not just a natural consequence of a busy lifestyle.
People think that depression is sadness, or that depression is crying. or that depression is dressing in black. However, depression is that constant feeling of being numb. Being numb to emotions, to life.
Imgur user Ekad felt that numbness for quite some time before she decided to see a doctor. She feels like she should have recognized the signs much earlier, and she now encourages others not to repeat her mistake.
Check out her powerful and encouraging post (and her memes!) below:
There’s no shame in depression, and one shouldn’t suffer in silence.
More than 17 million American adults are affected by depression or about 7.1% of the U.S. population aged over 18. You are not alone in this, and if you ever feel lost, exhausted, or simply not yourself, go and see a doctor about it.
