Irais Cadena is a woman from Chihuahua, Mexico, who has taken it to Facebook to share her opinion about what society expects from us. As we all know, women are expected to be beautiful, caring mothers who retain their youth and energy, while men are expected to repress their emotions and earn a six-figure salary.
Cadena explained in her post why she thinks women can be strong and beautiful without going for that “pitch-perfect” formula, and she noted that Sarah Nicole Landry is the perfect example. Cadena’s post has since been shared almost 700k times, and more than 170k people reacted to it.
Sarah Nicole Landry is a 35-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada, who has learned to accept herself and her body as it is, and she helps others to do the same.
Landry too battled with body image issues, and she told Bored Panda that at the age of 11 or 12 she already had issues over her self-worth, and she did her first diet at age 14. She believed for a long time that losing weight would be the way for her to find body acceptance, so she sought that strongly about 5 or 6 years ago. She lost 100lbs, but she was devastated to find out that she still had body image issues.
She has been working through her issues about self-worth, confidence, and eating disorder during that time, and she has documented that process online.
Women from all over the world are applauding Landry for her honesty, and the turning point happened to her when she was going through a divorce. She realized that she had to face the fact that weight loss didn’t make her happy, so she needed to find a balance for her and her body, and for a lifestyle, she could love and a body she could celebrate.
Landry is a mother-of-three, and she stopped judging her body and started honoring it instead. She regularly posts photos from her everyday life, and they include everything, from her stretch marks on her mid section to the cellulite on her legs. She said that the “freeing” experience has allowed her to feel much more comfortable in her own body and more confident.
