I guess we’ve all been there before: You’re standing at the airport check-in desk, waiting to get past all the formalities so you can finally get on board on the plane, when the employee tells you that your luggage is too heavy.
You thought that they wouldn’t mind the couple of extra pounds when you were packing, but it turns out that it wasn’t your day. You don’t have an extra bag with you, and you definitely don’t want to pay the extra weight fee. So, what do you do?
Well, if you’re Gel Rodriguez, you get creative.
Gel was taking a flight from the Phillippines, and she was informed that her carry-on luggage had exceeded the weight limit by almost 5 pounds. We’re all well-aware that the fee amount for just a couple of extra pounds is pretty much a runway robbery, so Gel decided to wear the 5 extra five pounds of clothes on her in order to escape the extra weight fee.
She layered herself with multiple t-shirts, jackets, and pants, and, in order to honor the genius idea, she took a photo of her iconic moment. She uploaded the photo to Facebook, where it was liked more than 36k times and shared over 21k times.
Gel claims, though, that she wouldn’t recommend the idea to others, and she responded that she probably wouldn’t do it again because it was really hot. People in the comments, however, absolutely loved the idea, and praised Gel for it. Many suggested that they would try it out the next time an airline tries to slap an extra weight fee on their carry-on luggage.
