Women Share How They Were Shamed For Their Bodies Using #TheySaid Hashtag

Oiselle is a Seattle-based athletic appeal company created by women – for women. Sally Bergensen, the CEO of the company, recently decided to take it to Twitter to share a traumatic story about the time people shamed her for her body. The story dates to when she was just a 12-year-old teenage girl, but it’s clear that she hasn’t forgotten it.

Her father once said to her that if she keeps eating like that, she would end up looking like a butterball. Those words still ring in her head, and now she’s encouraging other women to share their own experiences of being shamed for their bodies by using the hashtag #TheySaid. Many women chimed in with their own stories, and the hashtag received hundreds of responses. To add to that, the hashtag even prompted the birth of a sister hashtag – #SheReplied. Women have been using #SheReplied to urge a way to respond to the next person that offends you about your body.

You can check out some of the most popular responses below, and feel free to chime in with your own addition in the comment section.
