Scotland-based author and Twitter user Elizabeth May recently asked her followers to share if they’ve ever had a frightening response from a man when they’ve rejected, rebuffed, or ignored his advance in any other way.
She wrote that the thread was started because a man in her mentions insisted that she doesn’t speak for all women when she told him how afraid women are to reject a man.
She also noted that the Santa Fe incident was only one of the most recent stories in a long line of stories where a woman is blamed by the media for rejecting a man that later did something very bad. The problem is that’s a simplification of the issue because it’s not just rejection. It’s the toxic aspect of culture in which women are seen as a prize, or as a possession. Check out some of the best responses to her tweet below, and feel free to share your own similar story in the comments!
