Yelp, the local search service has partnered with designer Rebecca Minkoff and her Female Founders Collective to add a new feature that allows users to identify if a business is owned by a woman. It’s designed so people can support these businesses, as there are more than 11.6 million female-owned businesses in the U.S.
Woman-owned businesses can be now found by clicking on the “more business info” section where you can also see if a business has free wi-fi and a parking lot.
The female owners can mark their business as a women-owned in their business owner dashboard on the app, and Yelp even offers a decal which female-owned businesses can put in their stores.
The feature has already been adopted by Press Juicery, Drybar, byChloe, Milkbar, Sprinkles Cupcakes, and Glossier.
Consumers can now support female-owned businesses where it really counts,
Liina Potter, Yelp’s public relations manager said that it’s one thing to say you support women, but it’s totally another to really do that. So, they figured a way to give people an actionable way to shop and support their local women-owned businesses.
We must support the female entrepreneurs in our communities, especially now, when it’s more important than evef!
